Why This Program Matters

Balboa Peninsula Point is a special place – beautiful homes, beach access, and a close-knit neighborhood. But our unique geography also means:

  • Many homes are primary residences left unoccupied during work travel
  • A significant number are second homes, vacant for extended periods
  • Beach communities attract opportunistic crime without visible deterrence
  • Limited street lighting and narrow lanes create visibility challenges at night

The CFBPP is led by a volunteer board of neighbors dedicated to our community: Bill Mathies, Ken Drellishak, Bob Yant, Russ Doll, Tara Shapiro and Brigid O’Connor.

A visible, professional security presence changes that equation entirely. Neighbors consistently report that the patrol is one of the most valued community investments we make together.

Support the Patrol – Donations Needed

This program only exists because neighbors fund it. The CFBPP is a nonprofit organization – 100% of security patrol funding comes from voluntary community donations.

Your donation directly funds officer hours, vehicle and equipment costs, and dispatch infrastructure.

About Our Security Patrol Program

For over 14 years, the Community Foundation of Balboa Peninsula Point (CFBPP) has funded a dedicated security patrol to protect our neighborhood – one of the most unique and beloved coastal communities in Newport Beach.

Our security patrol operates 7 PM to 3 AM, 7 days a week, 365 days a year – providing peace of mind whether you’re home full-time or enjoy the Peninsula as your second residence.

This program exists entirely because of voluntary donations from neighbors like you. There is no HOA fee, no city subsidy – just community members looking out for one another.

Our New Patrol Partner: CitiGuard

Effective June 1, 2026, the CFBPP Board has transitioned our security patrol to CitiGuard following a competitive bidding process designed to ensure the best value, coverage, and service for our community.

CitiGuard was selected for their superior approach to community security:

  • Enhanced officer recruiting and training protocols
  • More hands-on field supervision
  • Improved use of technology
  • Stronger back-office support and accountability
  • Proven track record – they also serve Lido Island

Patrol officers operate in a CitiGuard designated vehicle with a roof light kit, making them easy to identify in our neighborhood.
