- Surfrider North OC removed 31,000+ lbs of trash from local beaches in 2025
- 80% of beach trash collected is single-use plastic
- The Newport Bay Trash Interceptor (California’s first trash-collecting water wheel) went live on San Diego Creek in March 2025. It’s expected to capture about 80% of the 100 to 500 tons of trash flowing toward Upper Newport Bay each year, roughly 240 tons annually.
